PHNOM PENH: King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk donated $100,000 in anticipation the 160th anniversary of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on 8 May 2023.

The announcement was released under royal letterheads, confirming that the King and Queen Mother would contribute $ 50,000 USD each to the World Red Cross. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace, Kong Sam Ol, will be responsible for distributing the money towards humanitarian efforts.

Upon receiving the news, First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen delivered a message thanking His Majesty the King and the Queen Mother for providing valuable contributions to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on 8 May. Her message read, "My colleagues and I will put this valued contribution towards humanitarian efforts for the benefit of Cambodians in need, especially those facing natural disasters.”

The Cambodian Red Cross was established on 18 February 1955 and is officially recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia as a voluntary association meant to provide humanitarian assistance to the public.
